Computer related questions.

Hi,

I'm still throwing around ideas for how I should make my projector. I'm thinking of using a desktop PC w/ controller and lcd panel but I'm thinking of further advancing my setup with a remote, etc.
So here's some questions,

1) Such devices as the TV-4000 (http://www.avtoolbox.com/tv-4000.htm), is it possible for me to somehow mod this into a tv-in for a computer? So I could display VHS, TV, game consoles, etc. through it? The website does say 'Compatible with virtually all PCs', so can I do it?
Or simply put, can I modify it so that I can use it? As I am using a controller/LCD. Or is there any tv-in card with various inputs (S-VHS and composite mainly) which provides equal or better video quality (sound isn't that important as It'll probably be used with an amp) ?

2) I've all ready asked this in a previous post but that was refering to laptops... Can I set the computer to turn on the light source when it boots up? Or when I tell it to via the remote or keyboard?

...

I had some other ideas but now have completley forgotten them... 😕

Ok, thankyou all.

Uhhhh, it sounds like you just want a remote for your computer. Do a search for "X-10" and "IrMan". That think your looking at is a TV-tuner that uses a VGA loopthrough. I don't have much experience w/ that, but most products are real TV tuner cards that acutally input the video into your computer.

As far as switching your projector on and off, get the X-10. It can control most computer apps (like Winamp, PowerDVD, even Win-TV cards, to name a few), most stereos, VCRs, TVs, cable boxes, etc. It also controls lights. You just get an "appliance unit" and plug your projector in. Then you can turn your projector on and off w/ the remote.

The X-10 is old-school, and it's what I used to use. There's a bunch of "HTPC" enthusiasts out there now. You might find something better.

Hey,
thanks for the replies.

Elkaid: That's perfect, except it unfortunatley costs too much 🙁

AJ Bertelson: That's also perfect (checked out after Elkaids), I'll probably get the 'WinFast TV2000 XP Expert', as that seems perfect for my needs.

Lifter: The remote I had already thought of, I was going to make one similar to the Irman, but unfortunatley have lost the link (anyone have??) Thanks for the X-10 info though. That may end up being what I use 🙂

Thanks all

Ooops 🙂

I forgot to mention that there's also the following :

vb50hrtv

nextvisionn5

Nextvision 5 should be cheaper...

i bought the N6 (vb50hrtv) and i was VERY disapointed in this product. watching my cable on my monitor was VERY blocky, the sound output was very low. in my opinion its a waste of 100$ i bought mine for 125$ like 3-5 months ago.
I like the N5 though it looks like it would be better. one day i will buy the N5 ut i dont recommend the N6.

**DISCLAIMER** these are MY experinces and MY opinion...YOURS may differ but i still dont like this product luckily i got my money back ...but i lost 50$ in the deal 🙁
