completed 5-channel UCD-180 (pics)

here is another recent project completion. its a 5-channel prototype amp i built.

it uses 5 UCD-180's, an 800VA transformer, and a shared supply. it really sounds fantastic. all the UCD stuff does really.

its about time? this one only took me 2 months total. and a lot of that was waiting on parts and such 🙂

actually, this one isnt that extreme. my OTHER ones are crazy. 65 pound class D's 🙂 gotta love that.

im surprised no one has commented on that thread yet...

Now I see where all the UcD180:s are 😀
Almost looks like mine, I have 6 channels, 4x180:s and 2x400:s, separate supplys and an Orion ASP on top of all that. How many kilos, no ideéa 😉

yep! it was pretty cheap (under $50 i think). i got it without a faceplate and just made my own. the back panel was done by front panel express for around $20.

Nice! Think I'll have to do a 3 or 5 channel for my home theatre, too, once I'm done with a 4-channel NCD with a couple of 1300VA trafos and 12(!) Jensen 15000 uF caps. You don't have to go for lightweight SMPS and no fins just because you can, right? 😀

exactly. i hate the image that is associated wtih class D, mainly from the T-amps and such. it doesnt have to be all puny and pathetic if its class D. my other amps are absolute MONSTERS and drive my speakers like they were meant to be driven. no other amp has done that, and ive had a few...

Hope you don't mind me adding a 3D model of my little monster, too. It's a stereo amp with four channels, which will be run with an active crossover. Each pair of amps share a 1300VA trafo and dual bridges, but they have their separate caps.

looks nice. 4 caps per channel? what size are the caps?

Look's nice. I like it. Now i am thinking about getting one built too for home theater. Buy a nice receiver with pre-amp level out for all channels and build a power amp module for each channel.

I'm using 15000 uF Jensen 4-pole caps, two pairs for each bass amp and a single pair for each high amp. By advice from Lars Claussen, I'm separating the treble amp and caps from the bass amp/caps with a 1 ohm resistor at the bridges.
