Hiya, just joined...
I just got one of these off of ebay, it's only svga but that's good enough for 720p and it will scale xga, so it'll do the trick. It cost me £91 including delivery which is a little more than i'd have to like to have paid but it's not too bad I guess, as there is still some life left in it.
and it's DLP so fairly reasonable at 500:1 contrast ratio, but not really bright, i'll have the curtains closed tho.
Ok so (it hasn't arrived yet) but the seller said it still worked but that the, you'll need a new lamp soon warning was on.
Depending on my luck then I could have a couple hundred more hours or maybe only tens, the new lamps cost like £300 so that's clearly a no. Ideally I want to take the old lamp assembly apart and just replace the actual lamp. I know at least one person on here sells a variety of uhp lamps.
So... What lamp do I actually need for this it's 120w that's about all I know now. Also does anyone have or know where I can get a dead lamp from, I obviously don't wanna rip this one apart while it's still working but I would like to be prepared for it's death.
If I can't replace the lamp like that then I'll have to make a far less pretty mod and will have to figure out how to make the think turn on without it's lamp in place - does anyone know how to do that for this model?
Also what other things might I want to do, to perhaps improve it, I suspect it's not going to be quite as bright as I'd like ideally, can I use a higher wattage lamp and overdrive the ballast? at the cost of adding some cooling.
Oh i'm not totally new to this btw, I built a DIY via the OHP and 15" LCD method around a year ago, first LCD just died for no apparent reason, the second one, had it's like not quite ribbon, (but you know a soldering iron is gonna melt it) stuff contacts all come off down one side. - I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get some sort of conductive glue to try and repair this. But either way I'd like something that isn't the size of... well a ruddy great ohp.
Oh yeah and the other thing i'd need would be lamp cement right? where do I get that?
Any help/comments appreciated, thanks.
matt.
