The first one is with a large diameter woofer, and it doesn’t show my problem area. The second image is where I reduced the diameter of the woofer and saw the 2khz issue that I’m seeing in the real measurements.
I'm going to guess that the widening at 2 kHz is from the other sources (e.g. diffraction from baffle edges) summing in-phase with the direct sound at those off-axis angles. Solution is probably still to play with baffle placement & ratios as others suggested, or treat all 4 baffle edges instead of just two.
