some people are hesitant to use a large bipolar cap in series... is that just because it is a cap, or because bipolar caps in particular change over time? Are there other options (besides spending $1k on small caps!)?

I've used 7 or so caps parallel

I'd say compare with some el-cheapo caps first what you like best, and decide then on the final build
