Compact Center Cabinet for PA

I have some spare drivers and I need better center coverage so I'm designing a fairly simple cabinet for use in front of a DJ booth. 2 - 15" woofers. I could just do a simple bass reflex design but I wanted to run a design by you folks.

Ported rear chamber opening up into a horn with the HF mounted at the mouth of the horn. It will be bi-amped with active processing.

Woofer - Selenium 15W10P-Nd 15" Neodymium Woofer

Horn - Selenium HC23-25 1" Exponential Horn 100x40 1-3/8"-18 TPI

This is a VERY rough concept [Image sketched in top view]

Any thoughts, critiques, suggestions, tip are certainly appreciated!

See attachment for my idea.

Thanks guys!

Hmmm...

I think you're gonna struggle to get a 1" compression driver down low enough to avoid lobing on the 15"s. Remember the 15"s will start beaming (individually) in the hundreds of Hz.

Even a chunky 2" driver will have a hard life here.

IMHO, if you need the SPL from a double-15", you're going to need something of the other of a horn-loaded 6-8" mid plus your compression driver.

This should address the beaming and I can time align with processing. My only reservation is the back chamber being nowhere near the 8+ cubic feet required for two of the drivers in a sealed chamber.

Obviously low end response will suffer but if I can maintain "punch" around 80Hz I'll be happy. It's going to sitting on top of a dual 15" sub cabinet anyway.

From your initial design, it looked as if there might be a height restriction. Is that not so?

Are you absolutely set on those 15"s?

If you've got subs, a 2x12" would end up smaller and lighter, but still provide a lot of output if 80Hz is your cutoff. The smaller drivers would also mean a higher crossover point is possible, giving the compression driver an easier time.
Which compression driver will you be using here?

Chris

Edit - just re-read your OP, and it looks like you already own those drivers. There's a chance you could sell/swap for something a little more suitable, though its fair enough if you'd rather stick with them.

Thanks for the reply. I'm trying to put the 15s to use so it's a comprise between buying parts for an ideal application and using what I already have. I would go with the 12s for a more ideal build but I'd really like to use what I have for this project.

The compression driver is from an old theatre I worked in. They are impossible to get specs for... Zomax with a hand written model number! I'm at work so I don't have it with me at the moment [JBL copy I can only presume] This looks like a close match but who knows! JBL 2426H 1" Titanium Horn Driver 8 Ohm 3-Bolt

Woofer Specs: http://www.parts-express.com/pedocs/specs/264-443-selenium-specifications-45776.pdf

The 15's should handle up to 2k with a 24 or 48 dB slope. Looks like a 5 dB drop 30 degrees off axis at 2k [desired xover point]

This project is a gamble for sure. I just want to get things as spot on as possible [realizing that there will be certain deficiencies].
