Noob question, but is it possible to combine two SE stereo amplifiers to run as a balanced pair simply by feeding each amp a +/- signal (per channel) rather than a +/gnd?
yes, sort of but go and do some more reading/learning because you could easily blow up your amps and maybe take the speaker with them.

You will need to bind the grounds of both amps together also.

The output grounds must be connected together, not the input grounds. It may be necessary to connect the input grounds together also (that depends on the amps used), but do not attach them to the output grounds.
