Color depth question

I just recieved my Nview Spectra pro, but am still wating on my dukane 4003 OHP. While I'm wating I was trying to figure out what color depth I should set the video card in my computer to. The spectra pro supports 1.4 million colors. MY options for color depth on my Geforce 4 are 16-bit (approx 65,000 colors) or 32-bit (over 16,000,000). Common sense tells me to set it to 16-bit, but is this enough colors to watch a dvd? Any help would be great.

Thanks,

To be honest, I doubt 65536 colors could be enough.

Do a quick test using your PC monitor :
1. Download a large picture using 16.7 millions colors (24 bits)
2. Take a look a it and then decrease your videocard colors depth to 16 bits. (65k colors)

You'll see some "plain" spots where the color is uniform instead of some kind of shades.

By the way, 24 bits is 16.7 millions colors, 32 bits is 24bits colors + 8 bits for the Alpha Channel (transparencies)

I pretty sure that setting a higher color depth isn't dangerous.
However, setting a refresh rate could result in some damages.
🙂
