Hey guys, i just finished putting together a basic tangentsoft cmoy and theres no sound coming out.
Led is on. I double checked my connections and everything seems right. Im using an opa2227.
What could be the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have an analog meter so i cant be precise but the voltages were 4ish on each side. The voltages also seemed identical (again, analog meter so i do my best at reading)
Analog meter? Where the heck did you find one of those... lol. You should really have a digital multi-meter. Even the $6 one they sell at harbor freight is better than an analog meter.
radioshack still sells em, cheaper than their digital one. Could it be i didnt use all 5 leads on the 3.5mm jacks? They have 2 leads for neg and 2 leads for ground, i assumed i only needed to use 1 of each...

That could be your problem; you might have the jacks wired incorrectly. I think that type of jack has pins that can be used as a NC switch. When you insert a plug it opens the switch. I can't tell from the pics how it should or shouldn't be wired.
Well, that was indeed the problem. I hooked up the wires to the right pins and amp works perfectly now. I gotta say im a little disappointed, it makes my headphones louder but theres not much difference in sound quality...
well sound quality is dependent on the opamp used.
what headphone are you using it with?
you might want to try it with 2 9v battery so that each rail is 9v instead of 4v or something from single 9v

isn't that's what good headphone amp should do, just amplify and buffer the signal for headphones? if it would sound worse, it would be a bummer, if it sounds better it would be a miracle...but if it sounds the same, it's kind off ok, isn't it
Im using it with my modded fostex t50rps. I know amps dont do anything to sound quality itself, i misspoke, meant i heard amps are supposed to bring out bass and it feels like there is no real difference in bass.
The cmoy is a bit of a toy but a good circuit to learn on (one of the first circuits I ever built). You need a better power supply design and more output current capability to get good bass on your headphones.
try swapping opamps...cmoy is designed around two single opamps OPA134
but if you have one socket there, you have to use dual OPA2134

Might want to add some 100nF decoupling caps from each rail to ground near the op-amp if you want to try other types. The OPA2134 might be ok without them, but it definitely wouldn't hurt. I prefer X7R ceramic type, but a film is better than nothing if that's all you have.
I was using an opa2227 at first and now i swapped it for an ad823 which im liking a little better. How does a basic cmoy fare against say an O2? or the wire?
