Hey everyone. Audio newbie here, it seemed like this was the place to come for advice.
After doing some research, it seems my the voice coil in my logitech x540 woofer is fried. I have no idea what a voice coil even is, so I figured I would just try to replace the sub.
After looking up the woofer specs, I found that the x540 comes with a 25 watt sub, so I assume the amp is designed to host a 25 watt sub. I don't know what the other specifications are.
I've had a difficult time finding a 5.25" 25 watt sub, but Tang Band seems to offer good quality equipment and they have what I need. I'm looking at a Tang Band W5-704D 5-1/4 Woofer, which is rated at 28 watts RMS, whatever the RMS means.
I was wondering if this would be a good replacement? If not, is there anything you can recommend off the top of your head? Would the extra 3 watts make a difference? I like to listen to my music as loud as I can, but never go to max volume, maybe 75% of max at most.

Watts aren't an indication of compatibility with an enclosure but TS parameters are but I won't get into that. Give me the internal dimensions of the sub box inc the port length and diameter and I'll do the rest! (tonight when I get home)

Note that the woofer selling on AMazon is coming from Parts Express. If you go to Parts Express: the #1 source for audio, video & speaker building components you can find their entire selection fo speakers, which fill several pages in the catalog, a line for each. You may find more sibwoofers to chose from there.
Some woofers - low frequency speakers - are suited to subwoofer use, but not all. There are also speakers made that are specifically for subwoofer use. And indeed there are even some subwoofer speakers that have dual voice coils. I know you don;t know what that means, but it does mean it has two of those things.
The woofer is the part of a regular old stereo speaker that makes the low notes. A subwoofer is a speaker specially designed to make even lower notes. SO the demands on it can be different from a regular woofer.

Port length is roughly 7.5", with a diameter of a little over 1.5".

@Enzo: Thanks for the info, I had always assumed the individuals words sub and woofer were interchangeable terms for subwoofer. Whoops XD. Also, Parts Express is actually the place I found the speaker, I just searched amazon too and happened to post that link. I bookmarked their page actually, because they had a veritable library of speakers.

Search instead for a "mid bass driver"
The same size I had in my Toyota MR2 "subs"

Hello Zimmerman, from reading your posts I need to ask, how do you know that the voice coil in the subwoofer driver is bad?
