Hi to all
Anyone do the "upgrade clock" mods to this player?
I have an "old" Lclock X0(psu and clock) and i want to mount this on Denon.
There is a "guide" or photo for the modification a schematic?
I have also an Lc Audio Analogue Stage Upgrade with Operational Amplifiers a dual ad825...can i use on denon?
Thanks
Best Regards
Paolo

Hi suennino.

You'll probably find there is more than one clock in your DVD player. Your first step should be to find a service manual for this machine. Then, start reading through the datasheet's for the various IC's in the machine just to get a basic concept of their purpose. That way you have some basic understanding of how the player works. Next study the power supplies and find out where the clocks are. See what each clock (oscillator) is providing signal for....

If its better audio your after look at replacing the clock on the audio DAC. This might be integrated into some kind of generic video/audio processing chip. If that's the case re-clock that chip.

I have never seen any DVD player mods on this forum and searching with the keyword 'DVD' pulls up jack sh**. Im in the same boat as you, I also want to mod my DVD player. Were probably going to get nearly no help on this! lol! With a bit of research you can find out what you need to know by yourself though. Like I said, find the service manual first and study it. With that in your pocket you should be good to go!

Do well! 🙂

Thanks, but in those threads i found nothing about the installation of the Clock.
If you find some photo i'm very glad.
Kind regards

Thanks Guys!
I have done some mods finally to my player. Stock it kinda sucked for analog playback, but a few mods with some parts on hand and I am very happy. Real quick run down I removed all those naughty electros from the output signal, and placed some better films I had around in there. Also the OpAmps were replaced with sockets and stuffed them with some OPA2134's. Under the ops I added some PS caps and .1uf bypass polys. Also with the second set of jacks I decided to run the L/R jacks straight from the outs of the OPA2134's with a 100r inline. Very happy indeed. The whole audio presentation is much better. The soundstage is the best notable gain.
I love this place!
Pic's and write up are here.

Today me and my cousin we looked at the schematic and have (hopefully) understand how to install the clock.
Can anyone tell me if it is right as we understand?
We must remove C178 and C177 and connect the positive(of the clock) to pin 7 of ic 105 sm8707e and the negative to the ground? Right?
I hope is right...!
Thanks

The DVD processor (IC502) has a xtal 27MHz - the input pin is #33. It drives the motor too.
IC105 has the 27MHz xtal for mpeg decoder, the video cips... Input on pin #7. From here the 27MHz it is derived the MCLK for the DSD decoder too.
The "audio decoder" (IC201) has another xtal of 12.288MHz and the input is on pin #132. It does reclocking and other nice things to the digital PCM signals so it is the most important for those. DSD goes directly to DAC (switched of course).

so I have to find the ic201?
I had read that the frequency was 27 MHz xtal so I tried that ...
Thanks

Clock on ic105 works with SACD and in some extent with the immage processing cips.

It drives the PCM formats too, but with the AL24 cip in action means that everything will be reclocked, dithered and upsampled by the 12.288MHz of the IC201, so it doesn't matter what clock was ahead.

Now I have installed the clock on ic 105.wrong? I have another problem, the clock makes a loud noise ... a buzz, what can it be? I mounted the quartz removed from the dvd on the clock ...wrong?
thanks

Here you go-

The first pic shows the placement of the stock Xtal, the second shows the connection points for the D-clock (as installed by Matt at SACD mods. He does really excellent work and at a fair price.)

Hope this helps.

With all due respect, (AFAIK) the DVD2900 does not utilize Denon's AL24 chip, so the clock really can make a difference, significantly reducing the jitter from the original clock's 158pS to a mere fraction, which translates into better sound quality (especially noticeable on RedBook CD playback).

I personally have heard the improvements. 😉

For more on the effects of reduced jitter, I have found the following resource informative:

p.s.Paolo, please share your impressions of the sound when the improved clock is working, ok?
