I have a "scratchy" Noble conductive plastic "four leg" stereo pot in an old Nikko pre. Is it possible to disassemble and clean these without watch springs, levers, ball bearings and gears flying across the room?

Hi chipco, I believe this stuff will clean up your pot, just shoot it into an opening and turn your volume control left and right which should clean the carbon 'graphite' (?) strip that gets dirty.. The stuff is kinda expensive but can be used for many, many things...

A service technician from QUAD Audio once recommended me WD40 multispray to clean my pots and contacts in my old QUAD 34 preamp. Sofare one single treatment has lasted for more than six years 😉

Or, maybe drill two small clean holes where the two carbon strips are to get you little 'straw' nozzle in there??

those pots are similar to a lot of pots i've seen before. remove the screws and invert (shaft down)hold the shaft in a pc board vise, take off the end bell, and lift up the other parts just enough to get at the etched side of the wafers with the cleaner solution. flush the wafers and reassemble. IIRC the etched side of the wafer is the back side on these pots, but i've seen them assembled both ways. it's possible that one of the rotors is pinned in place, so you may have to remove the retaining clip on the shaft to get enough give in the action to separate the halves.
