Hello
I have been having a reoccurring problem with my solid state Pioneer SX-3700 stereo receiver. When listening to music the left channel cuts out. i have traced this problem to the tape monitor switch. Since I am a total newbie, is there any online resources that show or explain how to clean a dirty switch??
much appreciated
darren.

Rough handle it (the switch). This will wipe/rub the contacts.
The older cassette recorders had a multicontact changeover switch for recording, which sometimes created problems for playback as it is mostly left idle as people rarely use record button. I used to solve this problem by pressing the record button a few times. This action rubbed the contacts.
Other pro methods are not advised for a novice.

Not dry joints underneath ? O.K. try WD40 or similar. Flood the switch, try and squirt into any openings ( try not to get it all over 😉 ) and work the switch to and fro. Use paper towel around it to help overspill.
It's either that or replace the switch. It will work 🙂
