I have to thank all from the bottom of my heart..... i really appreciate all the feedback...
....
Yesterday i was searching through my boxes with spare parts and i found a pair od 240 from IR and a pair of 9240 from IR... In the same box which means i bough them together long time ago.
Also i found matched pairs of k170 and j74... several of them actually.....
Seems like i will be jumping to my known theritory of building something i am familiar with and i can play around if needed....
One more positive side, it is cheaper then a ready made class D that i know little about, even if you get it from Audiophonics......
So, seems to me i am few steps closer to class A .... tube preamp/buffer in front and rock on......

sparkle,
Good to know that you have the key parts in hand, especially the matched pair of 2SK170/2SJ74.
Good luck with the build (once you decide what you want to build), and keep us posted on your progress.

there was a thread on how different Papa's amps sound... usefull to make a choice.
If the impedance curve is not going bellow your 4 ohms and has not phase narrow dives-abgles- you certainly do not need smps style amps.
That said I have a smps Chord amp with sorted out Mosfet and it has no sound on its own, high details resolution and can shake everything, so a no brainer as well.

Well, my speakers are 4 ohm... i really don't know about the curve.... that would be interesting to check....there was a thread on how different Papa's amps sound... usefull to make a choice.

but right now i am driving them with Techno amplifier from late B.Jagodic and i had some similar amps in concept as Techno but lower in power and they were fine.... no jeed for huge amounts of power..... but need a good solid sound with great soundstage (i am listening to electronic music)......
👍👍
I think i will give a go for F5...... will start gathering parts....seems like the box with heatsinks will be the most expensive investement here (caps and toroids are next in the line)....
Yet, you have decided to go ahead with whatever you already had in mind 😛i really appreciate all the feedback...
Not criticizing, just noticing that often, when asking for advice we just look for confirmation.
I have an ICEpower 125ASX2 class D amp. I've listened to it on my speakers (the Seas A26 clone of the Dynaco A25) and at a friend's place on a couple other pairs of speakers. There's something about the sound that frightens me, I can't quite put my finger on it. In my system I could only listen to it with a B1 Korg NuTube "distortion generator" in front of it, and it's been gathering dust for months now.
I've listened to three class A amps so far- an ACA, M. Rothacher's MoFo monoblocks, and a clone of the F3. I loooove the F3. I listen to jazz, classic rock, funk, and some classical piano on CD and vinyl. I use a trafo-based passive preamp in front of the F3 currently and will soon have a B1 buffer to try with it.
Just an opinion.

Actually i waa ready to get a class D amp from Audiophonics..... i changed my mind after reading a lot for these couple of last few weeks while waiting for a particular class D to become available.....Yet, you have decided to go ahead with whatever you already had in mind 😛

I can always get it next.... but decided to give a go for smaller in power, ckass A..... what is the problem there i really don't see....
Right.... o.k.... working with switching power supplies professionally, i can only say, they like to brake more often then classical devices... however, those classics don't have the quality like smps.... ohhh..... o.k.....I have an ICEpower 125ASX2 class D amp. We'll see ... right now going with F5 route with tube preamp if needed....
of course a better investment and improvement could be a dedicated amp for the bass with EQ to match the room. Or keep the amp and introduce parametric EQ around the pre ot the source (streamer with EQ/DRC)

Good luck! Let's hope you won't be disappointed.
Class D is more neutral but very dry in my opinion. It's mathematical perfect, but does not bring the joy of listening to music like tubes or class A, not even of good class AB. Others disagree, i know. So i think it's a more personal choice. I have Class A transistor, class AB transistor and tubes and class D amps, but the class D amp is mainly used for measuring or in less important setups (my noisy workshop and the kitchen). Class A and tubes in my living room (my main listening room) and class AB transistor in my office.
And with your speakers, you don't need much power i think, at least not in normal house settings. If you liked tubes and class A i would go for that.

Then you should do it in style - email me and I will send you a set of the Harris IRF parts.
