Class D Amp for transparent/neutral monitoring and music production ?

How does audio band noise sounds like?

There is no lack of closed-loops, but the idea of feeding back output to input, put me off 😀

Are you using high sensitive spkr? Sorry, anyway i am clueless.

Never studied deeply 🙂 But you can check it on your D8's power rail ! Use capacitive coupling + a resistor divider matching your headphone 😀
Connect the HP only after amp is turned on and loaded ! 🙄

Only selected outputs are useful in feed back configuration 🙂 Check first if
it contains at least some useful stuff !

In the study I use 85 dB LS50. Living room have a custom built 2way, should be around 90 dB.

I think it's perfectly relevant, especially the 16 /44.1 NS plot , given 16/44 is about the same data rate as the DDFA 1bit / 744 khz .

Is there a chip by TI or others, operating at such frequency? That's just enough for eloquent in my book.

I think the DDFA 1bit data is false, as I recall it should be 7bit time resolution for the PWM part.

TI TAS5548 works at 350Khz, time resolution is not documented, but should be at least 6bit viewing by a scope.
They have some new chips going up to 2Mhz switching rate, but I don't have experience with them. They are probably for inductorless automotive or active speaker applications.

sorry wasnt seriously reading the 1st time - 😀

...I measured a TI based FDA running from 24Vdc power brick

...power supply noise can go up to 400mVrms
...It was not the switching/ripple noise of the supply but mostly audio band noise due to the limited load regulation of PSU
...occasionally I use the open loop SMSL AD18 as a desktop amp. I find it ok...

Got it ~ Though an openloop, Alientek D8 isnt a SMSL AD18.

Problem source to solution-
Short story : use a good well regulated PSU ~ much better 400mVrms.
Long story : Any good gear, supplied with poor quality PSU, not likely to give good result. Feeding cooking oil to Porsche not likely to max out performance

Loved Spkr sound, so no headphone for me. 😀
Yep, my wharfedale 86dB on D8 sounds fine. 90dB rather high sensitivity.

...TS; get yourself a good tpa3116 or tda7498 (E) board and a 19V laptop power supply and be amazed with your first class D experience.
To me all my class D amps sound less colored / more neutral then all a/b amps I compared them to. ..

had wonderful experience with D-class TDA325x family, nice sound coming out of small price-footprint. However my mind borders me that DAC used in non-FDA do to some extend adulterate source - wld not consider them to be transparent/neutral monitoring.

Yes, TPA3250 will easily outclass TPA3116 and most other classD/T type smaller amps, if fed with the right volts.

Search for TPA3250 on ebay there is now a great strereo amp available FX502SPRO, there is even a vendor with US stock. I do recommend you open it up and replace the socketed NE5532 opamp chip with a pair of LME49720 however to really get it to a nice fidelity. I also feed mine from a linear lab bench PS (24V) but the included brick should be fine. There are a few other TPA3250 boards available but this is the only one thats fully assembled into enclosure, and price is good (80$usd). Unless you REALLY need a lot of power imo, say if your speakers are -80db/w/1m or lower, stick with TPA3250, there maybe some tradeoff in sound quality going to its higher power siblings TPA3255 or TPA3251.

e: I do currently use this FX amp myself, after having tried numerous TPA3116 and other classT amps over the years. Currently its feeding my philharmonic BMR and very satisfying, considering the speakers are 15x the cost of the amp.

Aiyah - jigglebones , how are you doing 🙂

I think we are liked minded, I do have a FX502SPRO & gotten a couple of LME49720NA to play with. I am look forward to compare my FX502SPRO (with NE5532 replaced with LME49720NA) to see if indeed a notch above FDA Alientek D8.

For the sake of my authenticity verification, how does your LME49720NA look like?

Nerdbeere, you may look at FX-AUDIO D2160. It is a decent build amp from TI's TAS5548 + TAS5614A full digital chipset. It goes for 270 EURO.
Half priced, lesser quality alternative is SMSL AD18.
Both can be run from USB, SPDIF and BT aptx without DAC component, but with DSP based direct PWM conversion.

Have you listened to the D2160? I have a lot of amps (TPA3251, STA326, LME49810, LM3886, TDA8932... I could go on!) but the one I haven't tried is the TAS5548/5614 and the D2160 also has a great receiver - AK4118. So if anyone has a 2160, please comment on its quality. I would rather not be the first ;-)

Nanoloop, if you have an interest I want to offer you test my HiFi-TOY amp, it is a similar TAS5558+TAS5624 digital amp with good SMPS and BLE IOS/Android DSP control. I need someone to test my product with the comparison vs others amp, so you are an ideal candidate I think. And actually, I guess my location within 50km from yours.

Hi Ivan - that's a fun offer - thanks 🙂 To be candid, I'm in the midst of rebuilding my bi-amped speakers so I don't have a reliable means of establishing a benchmark yet, so I'm frankly not ideal. However, I have finished a build with an Aperion Audio woofer and Klipsch tractix tweeter, crossover is using Mundorf Supreme silver/oil and Jantzen Cross coil and that would let me compare the STA326+AK4113 amp with yours. Are you still interested? No worries if not, but I am curious about your amp so please share the details either way. 🙂
