Class A 50W

You’re not going to be able to effectively “pre-distort” in a preamp. Especially for crossover distortion because it’s high order. That’s because it happens over a very short piece of each cycle, and actually is highly dependent on initial conditions - ie, what the amp was doing before. Charge-storage effects are just as responsible as the IV characteristic. You just have to minimize it. Class A gets rid of it entirely at the expense of heat. Class AB (B) can get it low enough not to normally be bothersome - that is, theoretically low enough in level not to be audible. Some will claim to still be able to perceive it. Those that do, build class A amplifiers. Those that don’t, don’t.

That's what I figured. I was looking into elliptical filters, but the ripple and instability don't make that a very attractive proposition. I have a feeling that's something only for the digital domain.

I was looking into using an overspeced comparator like the TLV3811 as my detector, but if what you're saying is true, then that wouldn't even matter because of the filter depth. That and I would imagine the switching noise would also be something I would need to look into.

Guess it's back to the drawing board. On the bright side I'm happy with my preamp for the most part. Just need to figure out the power section and the supply... oh and where to put the volume control that's important too :joker:
 
So, which 50 watts classA amp you built?
Actually my class D design evolved quite a bit so I may just use that for all 3 channels.
Yet you are asking for a 50W class A amp - doesn't make sense...
Yeah I kind of realized that in the end. It's been a couple of months since this post was made and I've done a lot of reading since then. I figured even if I wanted to go with something like a class G or H design in order to increase efficiency, the design complexity seemed to skyrocket. Class D should do what I need it to while maintaining good noise figures.
