Your 60hz hum may not be an issue with the original speakers. an old trick was to drop freq response off below 70hz.. Good bye 60 hz hum!
That's why I am not going to pursue fixing it. It must be a problem with the design/layout of the amp.
One thing I did notice is the hum changes when adjusting the volume. Starting with the volume at the lowest position, the hum decreases as the volume is increased, then it nulls at a minimum but then increases exponentially as the volume is increased to max. Must be coupled thru capacitance and/or inductance early in the signal chain somewhere.
