I picked up a pair of Cizek Model 1s this weekend for $5 (on a whim and knowing nothing about them but they looked cool). The cabinets need some refinishing but are solid, the grilles and foam on the front baffle is shot, the tweeters work as do the woofers but they need refoaming.
Are these something I should put the money into or should I just gut them and play with them DIY style?

The Cizek Model 1 is actually a pretty neat speaker to have. It's got some history!

If I came across a pair, I'd probably make every effort to restore it to it's original condition just on cool factor.
That's just me though, I've never actually heard one, but it looks like it would make a cool addition to a collection.

Hey Timber, here's a link to one site with some info on Cizek (as well as others) speakers.

Thanks for the links.......looks like I may need to refoam these and see what they are all about. If they sound good I'll proceed with fixing them up and adding them to the rotation.
I heard them back in the day and loved them. They were alongside speakers from AR, ADS, Yamaha, Mitsubishi, Design Acoustics and early Polk.
I just got back a pair I sold to a friend in 1979. He reconed the woof which appear good. the xover and tweeters looked fried.
Its the tweeter Im concerned with: Peerless KO10DT
Is there something thats technically better these days? That will fit the xover curve - set at 1.5k. My guess a 12 or 6 db slope.
Might even consider using my ProAc Tablette 2 (the worst version) as the mid/tweet and then use the sub woofer circuit on my rec - a decent early 90's Denon.
Ideas welcome.
