From looking the data sheets over, it seems like a 6DV4, or a 6CW4 (for more gain, or smaller input signals) for example, would be ideal when loaded with iron. High mu, combined with low Rp - so you would get all the gain (68 in the case of the 6CW4), and still maintain excellent frequency response - something that's impossible with 6SL7's and other oldies.

Ive got a 6DS4 here somewhere, its pretty close to 6CW4.. ive always wanted to do something with it, but i forget where i put it, and it's socket, and i forget if it was good or not..

Well, you could use a resistor load, but then you'd never get more than half the mu out of it in voltage gain - which then defeats the purpose of using the nuvistor in the 1st place, IMO.
