From looking the data sheets over, it seems like a 6DV4, or a 6CW4 (for more gain, or smaller input signals) for example, would be ideal when loaded with iron. High mu, combined with low Rp - so you would get all the gain (68 in the case of the 6CW4), and still maintain excellent frequency response - something that's impossible with 6SL7's and other oldies.

Does anyone have experience with these micro tubes?
 
Ive got a 6DS4 here somewhere, its pretty close to 6CW4.. ive always wanted to do something with it, but i forget where i put it, and it's socket, and i forget if it was good or not.. :dead:

but im too ghetto for chokes anyways. i'd use a resistor
