So today on craigslist I bought a Polk psw1000 (PSW1000 Product Page : Powered Subwoofer : Polk Audio) for $75 because a surplus place is selling them without amps. I have been planning on making an amplifier and this gave me a perfect reason to do so. The polk has 2 10 woofers rated at 500rms max each. I was wondering if I made the chipamp.com lm3886, or the hifidiy.com lm3886, if it would work well with this sub?
Is the chipamp or the hifidiy lm3886 better than the other? Also can I connect both subs to the mono lm3886? The subwoofer also has a volume and frequency control unit on it, I assume this is the crossover? How Do I connect the 8 pin connector from the volume/frequency unit to my amp?
I will post pictures in a minute for better clarification.

The drivers are 3.5 Ω each, almost 4Ω. They are separated currently, but they are suppose to be connected in parallel. In parallel they are 2Ω. they are 88 db. The old amp had 400watts of power

I know I can just purchase an amp for it or get it to play other ways. I am more interested in actually building an amplifier, so I can use it in my school portfolio. But I do want to make an amplifier that will make good use of the subs, because they are good quality. Can the lm3886 handle a 2Ω load?

Don't even think about using the two drivers in parallel.
That leaves two choices
1.) drive them independantly
2.) connect them in series and drive the 8ohm equivalent pair.
Now to sensitivity.

Each 4ohm speaker can get ~60W maximum from a 3886 using a +-32Vdc PSU. This PSU will sag to ~+-27Vdc to +-30Vdc, when trying to deliver full power.
Total maximum input power is ~120W
That leaves two choices
1.) drive them independantly
2.) connect them in series and drive the 8ohm equivalent pair.
Now to sensitivity.

I have nothing much to add, except that I have a dead KLH sub with a burnt some or other in the amp.

Why would I not want to consider running the drivers in parallel at 2 ohm? Bad for the lm3886?
After looking into other amp builds Im thinking of making an amp that is better for subs like the TAS5630 D-Class build at 400watts.
Im gone for the weekend and I will call polk when I get back to ask about the sensitivity again.

Hello jordyyy, i have the same questions as you. I am interested to know if lm3886 are capable of handling 1.5 - 2 Ohm loads. Maybe the 3 x lm3886 design is better for this kind of use..?
