Thanx for the replies. The Amp4 does look nice. It's output relay is sorely needed on the LePai. The LePai IS cheap and it scares me a little, that it could develop a DC problem and damage my speakers. The Amp4 scares me too, I've never soldered surface mount.

I see many builders express a fear of soldering surface mount elements. Let me suggest a simple Google search with "soldering SDM chips" provides several excellent videos on the subject. I had never attempted the task till early this year but now have had several successful builds. I also noticed the "41" site sells practice kits for $2. Give it a try - it's fun.

I'm usually a Class A MOSFET "purist" 😀 but recently completed the ChipAmp LM3886 dual-channel amp for casual listening. I'm impressed with the kit, the LM3886, and the sound it produces.

I'd rather solder surface mount components... but I'd rather keep a stock of through hole for various reasons so that gives more flexibility in design changes and quick one-off projects as the urge hits.
I'd like to vote for MyRefC because it will compete against your T-amp for sound quality.
And, MyRefC won't leave you wondering why people like chip amps. 🙂
