While browsing flea bay I came across some x-over coils of a type I have not seen. Instead of using solid wire, they are wound using 7 strands of ofc wire. Said to measure 4.5 mm in diameter. Question #1 4.5 mm is equal to what gauge ? #2 Has anyone used these, and how do they perform ?
Based on a couple samples 0.3mH, 2.2mH they sounded more relaxed and expansive (if you know what I mean) than single heavy-gauge solid wire aircore.
Table here, down the page a bit. And a discussion about solid vs. stranded gauges.4.5 mm is equal to what gauge ?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_wire_gauge
"The AWG tables are for a single, solid and round conductor. The AWG of a stranded wire is determined by the cross-sectional area of the equivalent solid conductor. Because there are also small gaps between the strands, a stranded wire will always have a slightly larger overall diameter than a solid wire with the same AWG."
Thank you all for the replies. It looks like I will go ahead and try these. I am converting the Criton 1td over to the 1tdx. And with the sky high price of inductors now, these are a bit cheaper.
