First heard Chick's remarkable playing on Stan Getz's Sweet Rain when I was a kid in the 60's. His talent evident every decade since. RIP Chick.
Chick's Elektric Band was one of my early favorites, especially on that GRP label. Hard to believe he's gone. Him and a Rhodes piano, these days it's a sound you seldom hear and I suppose even less now. RPI Chick
One of the giants of jazz, who thankfully has left us a treasure trove of diverse recordings. My favorite is Now He Sings, Now He Sobs.
He was here several times, the last one in 2017.
Chick Corea & The Vigil - Spain/Armando's Rumba - Gran Rex - Buenos Aires - 27/08/2014 - YouTube
In the statement announcing the sad news of Chick Corea's passing, the family offered the world the letter left by the notable American musician, with an especially loving farewell to "my amazing musician friends":
“I want to thank everyone who has helped me keep the fires of music burning throughout my journey. It is my hope that those who have the urge to play, write, act or whatever will do so. If not for you, for the rest of us. It's not just that the world needs artists, it's also a lot of fun.
And to my amazing musician friends, who have been like family to me since I've known you: it has been a blessing and an honor to learn from you, to play with all of you. My mission was always to provoke the enjoyment of creation wherever it was, and to do it with all the artists that I admire so deeply: that has been the richness of my life. "

Return to Forever 'Romantic Warrior' album, one of the greatest albums I ever discovered and love, a real work of genius, and Chick was there. RIP
I saw Chick Corea with Lenny White, Al DiMeola, and Stanley Clarke at the Berkeley High School theater, the next week I went out and bought a bass guitar. He and his band were an amazing inspiration. On a side note, some years later I was hanging out with one of the studio guitarists with Jefferson Starship who had been at Chick's auditioning session when Chick was looking for a guitarist to join the band. Chick handed him some sheet music and he said him and every other guitarist there was like OK let me take this home and practice and come back tomorrow. DiMeola took the music played it at lightning speed on the first take and everyone else went home.
Yeah, while this thread is for Chick, those first few solo releases by Al Di Meola were certainly a lot to digest as well. Can you believe Elegant Gypsy, and Friday Night in San Francisco were 40+ yrs ago.😱
I still remember how I shocked when I first heard Humpty Dumpty at collage. I played this song for a high school kid who is learning Jazz at high school last year and he was also shocked. Chick Corea forever.
wow, this is sad.
i've been a fan since i was young.
i won tickets to see him perform when I first moved to IL back in 1981; the first time I ever won anything on a radio contest.
what a show!

I never listened to him until a few years ago when a friend set up a small picnic concert outdoors and had chick corea perform. I truly enjoyed the experience and the emotion in his music.
Not a week or two goes by without me putting one of his records on. One of the greats who I fist saw play in the 1970’s. RIP
And that unfortunately is why the greats like him are dropping like flies now, so many are around 80 years oldFirst heard Chick's remarkable playing on Stan Getz's Sweet Rain when I was a kid in the 60's. His talent evident every decade since. RIP Chick.
Sadly I never saw him play live
