I just got an HP- A305 SD, now I need to get a good LCD panel to put on top of it. Where is the best place to look? Before you say ebay, I've been looking at the auctions there the past couple of days and I'm dissatisfied with the prices there... for instance, it seems like the Nview HP-Z115 can't be had there for under $200, which I think is unreasonable. invsol-inc.com seems to have steep prices also. please help! thanks!
thats what they cost dude
Don't buy a projection panel though
For $200 you can have an NEC LCD 1545v shipped to your door which has much better specs than any LCD projection panel you are going to find

Hi,
So if one was to go the way of the LCD monitor as you suggest, has anyone come up with a surefire method of disassembling it and using it in these projector projects?
I often read about people opening up their monitors and then breaking wires and ruining it or the display being damaged by the heat or something like that. I don't know if I feel confident enough to do this type of disassembly but I would like to try someday. Can you or anyone direct me to a site where someone has successfully modified an LCD monitor into a projector?
I have come about as far as I can with my LCD Panel/OHP system. I am very happy, but someday I will want more......
Thanks

the NEC 1545v is supposed to be easy to take apart and use for these purposes. there is a thread around here where a guy even has pictures of himself doing it. it's also supposed to be a good quality lcd. i just ordered one today for $260... a little pricey but i don't want to have a half-*** setup.
kl899,
If you can take some detailed pics of what your doing that would be great!

I'm going to try to borrow my brother-in-law's digital camera to take pictures. I really want to do that in fact. There is such little info on the net about this stuff it's amazing. I hope to completely document my entire project so people will really know if a DIY video projector is worth it. I think I will be able to relate to people trying to build a projector because I'm brand new to this like most other people, not a seasoned AV Club dork, so I know what types of questions people will want answered.
dork?
Now I've never been part of an AV Club....but if I had been in my school "daze" I'm sure I would take great offence to the disparaging remark. By thusly labeling folks with more experience you will allienate yourself from them, thereby possibly loosing a source of "informed" information. By all means I hope you have the best of luck with your project and your documentation process goes well.

sorry, maybe i shouldn't have said that. i just meant to say that certain people on these forums come off as very protective of their knowledge, which is not a cool thing for a diy forum.
We're all here to share knowledge...that's what this whole place is about. If you are finding that people don't answer some questions ...you might take a look at the question being asked? Many Many topics in this forum have been covered 2 or 3 times over....soo when a member opens yet another thread on the same material...well they just tend to get skipped past. It's not meant as a slight or a "protection of gained knowledge" it's just the way the "dorky AV Club guys" surf the forum.
That being said....there is an "earned" factor to sharing knowledge. If you come in saying "tell me everything I need to know to make an informed descision on building a projector, then tell me exactly how to build it"....well...I gotta tell ya...I for one won't answer. Ask some good questions in their appropriate threads and I for one (as will most members) will do my/our absolute utmost to help. You will see this in all kinds of threads...over simple question= over simple answer ( paraphrase recent thread entry....what can I do about macrovision? answer...Turn it off! )
