Nobody can answer a question like that without knowing things like the application (home stereo/theater, auto, PA, what?), the output capabilities of the amp(s), speaker impedance, etc. In other words, more info needed.

oh, sorry. (T/D class amp) 100Wper channel @ 4ohm home stereo amp. i know people can be really fussy about the wires, but i'm not!! but i would like to get the guage about right.
is it best to use speaker cable internally from amp to speaker and RCA terminals. also, from DAC to RCA terminals.
many thanks

I know there are MANY, often contradictory, opinions about this but . . . to my thinking, 12AWG is probably overkill in that application. 14AWG or 16AWG should be adequate and, like "DF96" said, you can salvage it from the old extension cord you ran over with the lawnmower.

You can use speaker cable for it, but do not expect big saving, as lenght will be too short 😉... some cheap wire from ebay....
DH-Labs SH-18 or Auric Hookup 18 AWG wire are good for it.
If you want biger gauge, use double - just twist it.
