Woofers need the right box size to sound good in truck or car.

An Eminence Beta 8 will get pretty loud, but not very low.... I'd step up to a 10" and get an Executioner 10" from steelsound.

Prototype, made of scraps... including bits from a table project and the top from a console hifi :^)

Got to get a decent XO made for it, the one we tried -- a vintage 70s dB systems was kind of hard to listen thru (and we didn't have the bits necessary to bypass the hi-pass)

The Apex jr. models well at .33 cu. ft. or less, depends if you want a little more boomy sounding bass. I'd go with a .29 cu. ft. box and if it wasn't boomy enough I'd add some polyester fiberfill or fiberglass to boom it up some.

depending on your definition of cheap, the adire extremis 6 is extremely small, but with its relatively large excursion it can go pretty low and requires minimal box space
