I've replaced my Edcor CXSE25-5K output transformers (5K primary, 200mA, 9.5 pounds) in my SSE
with smaller Lundahl LL3720 transformers (6K primary, 85mA, 3 pounds.)
The Edcor's sounded great when used with KT88s in UL with feedback into my Yamaha NS1000s. But now I have klipsch heresy speakers and I'm using the amp with KT77s in triode without feedback. The amp with Edcor's did not have the high end I wanted, so I went with some smaller transformers. These new speakers only go down to 50Hz so I'm not noticing any reduction in bass. The bass sounds pretty good actually.
Listening to mostly jazz, bossa nova and samba it sounds very good. Rock does not sound quite as magical. It might be the lack of low end. The high end is outstanding.
The Lundahl was made to 85mA by design. They asked me what I required, I told them it was a SET using EL34 power tubes and they recomended 80mA or 85mA if I wanted to be conservative. I have since found that the KT77s seem to have better high end than does the EL34 tubes I have, so I switched.
I'm very pleased with the results. I just need to make a new enclosure for the amp now with the transformers inside the box.

With shipping it was $441 USD.
That was in November. There is now a 10% tariff that's been applied on steel from Sweden to the US. You can't order them from Sweden, you have to get them from their North American distributor in the US. So that has to be considered. And the last time I ordered a transformer from the US under a similar political situation (if you know what I'm gently speaking about) the Canadian government put a tariff on it, that I did not know about, till it arrived. It significantly changed the price. I'm not sure if that's the case now nor do I know how you'd find out if there would be a Canadian tariff on steel from the US. There probably is....
