That looks similar to the old KEF reference 102s, with a threaded rod holding in the LF driver from the rear.
If you say so, I've basically no experience with consumer audio over the decades beyond what little Altec, EV, JBL, etc., offered, only being exposed to others on various BBs, forums since the late '90s.
I usually do something like the following:
- Cut hole for driver(s) using router plus Jasper jig
- Mark mounting holes for driver(s)
- Drill mounting holes for E-Z Lok threaded inserts (I generally use 8-32, 10-32 if large driver)
- Install and then remove inserts (install now so they have more wood to bite into in case they are close to the edge of the driver hole, remove so you don't cut them during the next step)
- Chamfer hole using 45 degree trim bit with the trim bit bearing just catching the edge of the driver hole so the chamfer is as large as possible
- Assemble and finish cabinet
- Install inserts again and mount driver(s)
