I would point out the one I won that is brand new as his is used he may be more inclined to take the lower price 🙂 I got a crazy good deal on a new drive though a used one should probably be around 50 bucks.
My control kit still not arrive yet. payment made on 12-12-08.

I tried my Aopen cd rom from the audio out to my tube amp. sound terrible. ANyone tried the digital out from cd rom to DAC?

Please be patient. Huang is a very reliable seller.
We had our kits shipped from Hongkong to the Netherlands in 7 days

I have no worries about the reliability of Huang and his agent.

robertc,
I am using an Imation CDRW unit and connecting the digital output direct to an Audio Alchemy DAC.
The sound is excellent! 😀
I have actually tried the following cdrom drives (52X speed):
1. LG (spin at high speed, very noisy mechanism although audio is good, rejected),
2. Goldstar (very silent operation, very good audio but read outer tracks with 'some' noises. Also cannot repeat last audio track. Rejected)
3. A generic 52X cdrom, skipping and bad audio output. Rejected.

My kit is not arrived too. Paid on 09.12.08.
Maybe italian mail service is s**t... I'll re-check mail this evening.
I'm currently testing a cd-rom with a 15 years old 100W AT SMPS, from a 80486 PC, with brand new caps... it works good! ....and I'm searching for a good low-cost DAC...🙄

What's low cost...I love my Twisted Pear Opus dac... lol I have dual mono Opus with a Metronome and a 4:1 SPDIF input module so I can hook up everything. Love the sound it makes though that's for sure.
OT: The Opus DAC is not so low-cost
but probably I have some old cd-players to cannibalize
and yes, I have a lot of old junk to recycle...

Haha yeah I guess it depends on what kind of inputs you need 🙂 As far as DAC's go though the Opus certainly isn't expensive when compared to most commercial DAC's. But nothing beats tearing apart old stuff as far as cost goes. I'm wondering if I can find a spot to tap I2S on this Plextor drive...

Hi, robertc,
Can't say I have but having tested the LG, I would make an assumption that it would be the 'same'.. ie spins at high speed but audio out (digital) is good, unless I can 'borrow' one for testing.. 😉
A friend recommends an AOPEN (CDROM) instead.. Currently the Imation CDRW unit that I am using was NOT used due to 'write errors' after 1 year of usage. I have not check the price of the AOPEN but I guess it would be similar to the Samsung, probably in the region of RM40-RM50.. Will check it out this weekend.
Compared to the Sony DVP-7000 that I am using as my main transport, the sound is almost 'identical' except that the Sony is a little 'warmer' in characteristics and more body to the low/mid bass.. For serious late night listening I would use the Sony and for normal day to day use, the Imation is simply excellent. 😀

Very sorry. The CDROM controller with VFD is sold out.

Did you get pics of the LCD ones? I saw a blue character LCD when I was browsing some displays and kind of liked it haha.... I imagine mine has shipped already? Was kind of curious what the LCD one looked like though.
