Hey,
thank you for all the info. I had the cdp open two weeks ago and got it adjusted so far that it reads 99% of all my cds, it has a problem with really scratched cds (i treated cds quite bad when i was a teenager) but unscratched and even burned cds are read properly without skipping now.
I forgot to take pictures of the scope signal, rf is at 1.2V p-p but the offset is like 1V.
My guess is that the previous owner had turned on all pots without any knowlege what to do, failed to get it reading and then it went to the dumpster. I also had to adjust the Laser pot but i the turned down as far as i could to have it still reading cds. I guess thats whats causing the problems with the heavily scratched cds.
What really sucks with the Sony CDPs is the lack of adjustment information, when you take a look at the service manual of a Denon DCD-1400 there is a large section describing the adjustment procedure step by step, including Lissajour figures and everything.
Sony SM : Laser not working? Dont touch it, buy a new one please to increase our profit. Can anyone provide me a complete step by step adjustment procedure for the CDP, just for when anything happends.
I dont even use the CDP because i am completely hooked on Vinyl, but sometimes guests bring a cd they want to listen to or once a year i pop one of my 20 or so cds in that i havnt got on Vinyl yet.
Modding should be easy two NE5532 per channel, but i dont mod classics worth more then 50 bucks, its a sin in my eyes... modding is for 20 Euro Player from the thrift store and can be fun, but classics shouldnt be modded to death.
