.....it's working - i repaired it.....😀
it was the lasers thin foil cable that was damaged, one of the copper leads was cut in two.
i was really nervous that the krell was dead.....and now it's playing better than ever - i replaced all the caps on the controller/sevo board with oscons.
next up is black gates nx arround dacs and I/V opa's.....

I have Theta Data BAsic II transport. Sadly, the gear that spins so that the drawer can open/close is broken. How can I get another gear? Theta has some but they are not only costly but are not original and thus was told by Theta that my drawer will not open/close smoothly.
Thanks in advance,
Gary

There is hope.....
The pro and 9/44 use the same tray gear. Philips used the cdm9 on the CD951 and CD931, choose which one of the two you would like to "own" and call your local Philips repair agent and ask for part number 4822-522-33192.
I ordered this way and got them here in South Africa (took 6 weeks) for about USD4.00 each. I believe this item comes in and out of stock at Philips these days but I enquired with a Dutch parts reseller about 8 weeks ago and there was stock. They wanted to charge me a huge handling fee, 3 times the price of the gear. The repair agent did not.
It is said that the grease used on the gear and tray is what makes the plastic brittle, so before you put in a new gear clean the tray thoroughly and use something non agressive like silicon grease. I used a little Wynflon. Teflon based stuff from Wynns.
The job takes 20 - 30 minutes, you will need a torx screwdriver set to remove the control pcb from the mechanism.
Good luck!!!!!

CDM-9 PRO uses a brushless motor, all other CDM-9 versions not. Maybe for this reason models with it rare.

The brushless motor is never the issue. If you want to find a low mileage laser buy a kodak pcd865. I picked one up, nos, unopened on ebay for £100. Ten minutes later I'd gutted the cd mech, vac bagged it and now I have a spare should my audiolab cdm transport ever die.
