Hi gents, I have the following delemma: My Cyrus DAD3 CD player has sustaned cosmetic damage, I want to transport the CDM9/44 and put this item in to a NOS DAC /Battery PSU (perhaps!), however how do you do this?, Can any one point me in the right direction, is the o/p of the CDM 12s?- I dont know!!!!.
I could use the Cyrus control board (make that may have to!) but want to junk the DAC /PSU and "re dac" it, and rehouse it in a swanky case, any idears gentelmen, I know there are a lot of forums about the CDM9/44 but i cant find any info about connecting one up from scratch so to speak, I am a newbee but can solder and read a circuit so all is not yet lost 😱

I think your best bet is to use the main board, perhaps disable the DAC stage, and sniff out the I2S from the decoder and feed that into whatever DAC module you hope to use.
If you can disable the onboard DAC (and maybe digital filter) and analogue outputs, and then see if you can make it run out of the box, then you're half way to transplanting it into another enclosure.
Sounds like a big job. Take it step by step.

Thank you i will consider that, at least you said 12s, so that good, was thinking of haveing two TDA1541 on the o/p, , the Cyrus PCB supporting the CDM has the control logic and driver display logic so that can stay, but the other PCB has the DAC and the PCB, so that can be removed (hopefully) - but I STILL need a diagram of the CDM o/p, so the floor is open gents.

I'm afraid I don't have any schematics for the player, but you should be able to find the main chips in the system (they'll be a decoder, probably a digital filter, and then the DAC), get there chip numbers and find they're datasheets (www.datasheetarchive.com is pretty good for datasheets).
You'll probably find the I2S input pins on the first chip on the DAC board, or the I2S output pins on the last chip on the control board.
Then, with a continuity tester on a multimeter, you should be able to trace these I2S signals to a convenient place to tap them off to the new DAC (IOW is there a ribbon connector between the two boards?).
I reckon you probably could remove the DAC board without problems, but it would be good to work out what chipset your system is using first, and how the split is laid out across the two boards.

Thanks Phil, i will do that, Alternitively: I could reassemble the Cyrus CD player, sell it on e bay, but a new CDM 9/11 (or what ever) use the 12s o/p to run a TDA 1541 Dac like the EC designes DAC, the bloke who designed it has made the PCB layouts available on this site (he sounds like a genuine guy to- BIG respect!)
Then run it off a battery like a class D amp (as i allready have a DIY paradise Charlise/Monica combo) running on batts.
problem is then:1 Servo
2 Display.(though Yoe at diy paridise has a display for the CD PRO 2 for sale on his site, would that work for a CDM9/44?) however in a nice case it would look nice--so: I need to find a manuall/cct digaram for the CDM9/11 still as the servo /dispaly have to interfaced if i went that way.

Your Cyrus might be ideal, because the control electronics are on one board, and the DAC (which you want to replace) are seperate and can be removed.
Why not buy a cheap CDM4 CDP off of ebay for a tenner to start with, and get a DAC working off of its I2S? Then start thinking about the final goal afterwards (and keep the Cyrus - it could be a great donor).

I've never found any useful datasheets for CDM9s, or any CDMs for that matter.
I've always used a donor so all the electronics are there for you (which can of course be modded 😉 ).
A CDM is basically a collection of motors and solenoids, and very little else. You need to provide servo circuitry, controlled by the decoder, and RF amplifiers for the data output into the decoder, and something to tell the decoder what to be doing. There's a lot to do, and I'd doubt its much fun. It'd be easier to use somebody elses work (even on CDPro2 this is the case, because all this is integrated into the CDM itself).
