I recently acquired a faulty Meridian 207 CDP. On inspection I found the laser assembly to be faulty. As CDM2s are now very difficult to find and having a CDM4/19 I decided to see if it is possible to fit the CDM4 laser to the CDM2. The laser assemblies are very similar and the CDM4 laser fits the CDM2 chassis but the laser will not swing in to the centre of the disc because the counter weight end is to large and contacts the edge of the CDM2 casing. As the counter weight is a solid moulding on the CDM4 I removed part of it with a small hack saw and this allowed the laser to travel all the way to the inside of the disc. When I powered it up it would not read the TOC and you could here the laser strike the underside of the disc. I then used a spacer to lift the disc about 1.5mm and this time it played. By inserting 2 screwdrivers 180deg apart it was possible to prise the turntable along the motor shaft and raise the disc as required. The player is now working well and has been playing for 2 days with no apparent problems.

Just finished installing the 4/19 swing arm and laser assembly in a defunct CDM2/10, reset the laser current back to 50mV and it works right out of the gate.
Instead of cutting the counterweight for clearance, I cut a clearance notch in the frame of the unit sufficiently to give full travel for the arm. The flex connector on the 4/19 arm is longer, but just short enough to work without problem. I didn't find any clearance problem between laser and disc so no spacer or modification required.
No idea of the longevity of the repair, but I see no reason why it shouldn't last.
