Hi All...
First post here, been searching the site extensively over the past six weeks or so, and am now on the hunt for some of the CDPs you guys dote over...
Anyway, I have a Philips CD850, so far the only tweak i've been brave enough to do is to change the standard NE5534 output op-amps to OPA627s... nice change...
The question is though, playing CDRWs, the player picks up the TOC no problem, but when pressing play, there is a sickening clunk from the mechanism before playback kicks in (not there with regular CDs/CDRs)...
Just wondering from those of you in the know of all things CDM4, if this clunk is doing me more harm than good, if the laser head is reaching its upper / lower stop, and maxing out etc... and if I should stop playing CDRWs to prolong this units life?!
Thanks 🙂

I guess it doesn't matter now...
...I got a mint condition CD850 off of ebay... so am going to use that as my main machine, and the old one as spares as and when required... 🙂
