I would be glad to know if somebody has ideas or even succeded on using boards from other players or self made boards on SAA72xx+TDA1541 chipset on Philips CD-104 and clones.
It's easy to find the players with those chips. For example I have the board from CD-160 and it looks like it will fit instead of the original CD-104's decoder board.
Would it be possible to leave the servo board in place and replace only the decoder board?
Or change everything except display unit and transport. Do display units use the same protocol?
If it's so, the problem with digital out (SPDIF/I2S) will be solved.
Thank you in advance!

So, you mean that CD304 has exactly the same servo board and laser and motor boards as CD104? Only decoder board is different?
Thanks
