Hi
I guess there has been a lot about getting a good cd transport as a source for a DAC. Well I tried the WADIA approach to this matter.
They use a cd rom as the transport in thier latest models. I tried this and to my amazement this turned out to be one of my greatest sounding gear!.
I used a TOSHIBA cd rom drive reading with 52x and an internal buffer of 512Mb. Simple connect the digital output to the DAC (with a small adaptor made of an resistor 75ohm) and enjoy the music. As for the driving unit I bought the ready programmed unit with a display and remote control.
For me it works great, sounds perfect depending what DAC you use I tried both the NOS TDA1453 and the CIRRUS LOGIC chip based one with 24/192 setting. I am enjoying music as it should sound.
I prefer the Cirrus chip it just sounds great.
One thing about the CD rom it reads the contents of the cd and uses the buffer a stream to feed the output. my friend and I tested it on AUDIO RESEARCH VS110/LS17 preamp against his WADIA302 and he is now asking me to make one for him. Iguess that says it all.
