Hi
Im looking for a decent cd-player.
My old "home teatre" dvd/cd player (samsung) sounds awfull connected to the aca and the pensil speakers. My S3 phone sounds better!
I need some help.
My accountant says MAX.2500 DKr. (500usd)
I want a dedicated cd player for music, leaving the "home teatre" to the gf (accountant) for the "muzak".
It doesnt need to be "HI END" just good old HIFI !

Any suggestions ?

Cambridge Audio Azur 640C CD Players reviews - Audioreview.com

i have both 640c ( as trasnport ) and 740c ( as dac for high frequencies)

the 640c i payed 90€ in 2nd hand , if you get one at a good price it´s a great buy , the guy sold it cause the tray didnt open and the stop button was stuck , solved it in 1 hour.

if you want a new player check the new 650c , you wont get much better for the price and it´s in your budget

I've heard that some Toshiba DVD players have "respectable" analog audio outputs. Buying a CD only deck seems a bit limiting, since there are music DVDs with PCM audio at higher resolution than CD.

If the "home theatre" sounds bad, it's probably the pencil speakers. Spend that $500 on a modest AVR and some decent used speakers.

Sorry, I thought "pensil" was referring to the skinny speakers that come with a lot of home-theatre-in-a-box junk. Still, a DVD shouldn't sound that bad. If it can deliver bitperfect DD and DTS, there's no reason CD bitstreams shouldn't be perfect either. A decent DAC or pre/processor seems like a better investment than a CD player that's vulnerable to various mechanical and optical bits wearing out.

Hey Speedless
Last year i too was looking for a decent affordable cd player for my hifi setup. I settled on the marantz cd6004. Great player but i think maybe a tad over your budget although hifi here in Australia is expensive. but then i read this thread:

http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/digital-source/31123-playstation-cd-player.html

At first i was skeptical but i found a console for $10 so was worth a shot. in the end it rivaled my $800 Marantz. Dont just take my word for it though there are heaps that would agree with me and some that may not.

Also just thought i should post these for you to have a look.
Here is a guy who was able to add a dac out http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/digital-source/240529-playstation-1-cd-transport-spdif-output.html

and here is a site that gives step by step instructions on modding the play station.

Hi
Thanks for your help.
I got a brand new Yamaha CD-S300,just under 400usd.
This cd-player has a very "analog" sound.
What a relief !
My new build speakers and the ACA now sounds absolutly as i exspected.
The "digital" hard and screaming trebble is gone, midtone richer and bass clear and well defined.
Back to fine tune the pensil-enclosures;bracing,stuffing....
