I'm looking for a CD (or DVD) player for an audio-only system. The player will feed directly into a power amp. Sound quality doesn't have to be stellar - it's for a non-audiophile's exercise room. Any suggestions of a readily available model, either new or used?

There are lots of player out there that have a built in volume control, probably too many to list. But anyway, I have a Yamaha CDC-655 CD changer that has this facility.

Just be aware that a lot of CD players such as the CD63 go back to maximum volume when powering on. Try and find one with a pot or doesn't default back to maximum volume.
Could save your speakers or ears. 😉

Thats quite a bad characteristic, I could imagine being caught out by that. My Yamaha doesn't, it turns on to the same volume level as you left it.
Would be very easy to get caught. 😱
All the Sonys and a Shanling I have all startup with the volume where you left it. All those have a pot. I did have a Sony that did it in the digital domain but can't remember if it defaulted back to maximum volume.
