CD player Clock frequencies

There are a couple of things here...

The CD format itself determines which frequencies are readily and easily usable. You don't want to be multiplying or dividing the clock by strange values.

The chip set used in any particular player is another factor. If the conversion process demands a higher rate (such as oversampling etc) then a higher basic rate will probably be chosen.

A high end player that doesn't in itself need a high clock rate may well still use one on the basis that it can be divided down, made to have an equal duty cycle, jitter reduced etc externally to the chip set and on that basis offer perceived advantage.
