Hi,
Can anyone tell me what is the output voltage and current of a "standard" home CD player? I need this information to find out if a potentiometer I found is suitable, to use in a preamp.
Thank you,
Eric

The standard maximum output level for CD is 2volts RMS. Current is generally not specified by player manufacturers, but, in my experience, there are very few cd players(or other format players for that matter) or dac units that have very muscular output stages(at least before I get my hands on them), so I would not use a volume pot on the input of a preamp or passive that was lower than 47kohms. It's possible a unit could handle 10K, but more likely that the sound would start to suffer going that low(starting with bass quality).
Thank you very much for the answer, I also need to know how many Mili Amps the signal has. The reason is, the potentiometer I am looking at, can only handle 5 Mili Amps (Unless it is a miss writing)
