That can be quite a useful technique if you're a bit short on HT voltage. A cascode using PNP transistors makes a decent anode load, and for a given HT voltage has far more compliance than the equivalent (valve) section of a mu-follower. The DC coupled cathode follower after it only need a simple CCS.
