Forgive me if this has been answered before, but what is the difference between adding a CCS to the plate or cathode of a triode? I would like to get some more gain from a 417A and the IXYS chip looks like the way to go. Putting it in the cathode would dercrease the dissapation and probably not require a heatsink. Any comments?
In the plate circuit, the CCS will cause the stage to have a gain of the tube's mu. In the cathode, it will cause the stage's gain to be near unity. I suspect you want the former...
