Well, it is used in this context throughout the whole Chi-net, so it doesn't look like a jargon term to me.变压器 is transformer in Mandarin Chinese and 适配器 is adapter, but your statement seems plausible.
Still I'd like to hear from someone who speaks Chinese properly

I hear someone calling me? I am not a proper Chinese speaker with Beijing accent, but I am a native one. As far as I know,
Chi-fi originates from HongKong and Guangzhou where people speak Cantonese. In Cantonese, 'former' out of 'trans-former' sounds like 'fo neo' which in written Chinese is 火牛. In Chinese culture, 火(fire)means energy and 牛 is a work cow to Chinese like a work horse to westerns. So 火牛(牛 for short) was logically accepted to represent transformer or power supply with transformer inside.
But nowadays it's not common to call PS/adapter 牛, what you see online normally refers to transformer, like 环牛(环 is toroidal, toroidal transformer), or 方牛(方 is square, EI transformer) and 电源牛(电源is power supply, the transformer inside the PS)
EXCELLENT and THANKS for the clarificationI hear someone calling me? I am not a proper Chinese speaker with Beijing accent, but I am a native one. As far as I know,

They are only sweep tubes here. Much of the world refers to them as line output tubes.
SWEEP refers to sweeping the LINE across the face of the CRT. There are (were) 525 lines in a US NTSC TV set, where about 500 of them were useful. Other countries used anywhere from 400 to 625 lines.

English to Chinese translation:
Sweep tube line output => line of output like cow peeing and walking, Moo
Chinese to English translation:
line of output like cow peeing and walking, Moo => relieving bad boy behavior in public, with good audio effects
They are probably still wondering why we buy such things.
