Having owned a few good quality cassette decks over the years, I have a somewhat mixed fondness for the medium. It could be bad, or it could be rather good, there was a whole spectrum. I was too much of a snob to ever go in for 8 track. 😀
Yes, I own a wire recorder. And yes, it's worse than cassette or even 8 track.

I bet you don't own a Dictograph.
I had a friend who listened to Dark Side of the Moon on 8 track when he went to bed. It would play all night and the alarms at he beginning of Time would wake him up in the morning.
Having owned a JVC KD-75 and two well worn ReVox B215s I am not sure I understand the attraction. I used the cassettes mostly in the car once I realized I was not going to wear out my records playing them.
I had a few. My father had used them in the sixties, and he kept two until he realised he would never need those recordings again. He gave them to me with a box of belts, I had them until the water from fighting a barn fire got to them. Into the metal pile.
They really were terrible. If I still had them I would send them to you Pano, in whatever blessed or unblessed place you were living.

Hey! My Car has a Harmon K 10 speaker, discrete amps, audio setup as OEM .
Of course I still use Cassettes.
Basically because they sound a helluvalot better than FM radio does.
Despite weenie bleats as to sound their qualities 😉
Recently bought some unopened packs of Maxell c90s at local thrift shop for a couple of $

FWIW, thanks to the folks at Dolby and Nakamichi & Revox among others, there were some pretty darn serious recording / playback decks "in the day" that delivered far better performance than the media format should have allowed, particularly when using the advanced metal tape formulations - and at least an order of magnitude higher than the 8-track, but yeah, there were still limitations.
None of the commercial pre-recorded cassettes I ever heard could approach what you could get with something like a Nak LX5 or Revox B215 and a quality front end.

100% Chris. When I started out in "Hi-Fi" cassettes in the early 70s I bought a lot of music on cassette and couldn't understand why the quality was so awful. Recordings I made from LP or open reel onto cassette were not bad, so it didn't make sense.
Then I learned the evils of high speed tape duplication.

While my main signal sources these days are cd's, fm tuner, lp's and digital files, i still hold on to cassette tapes. Have few hundreds around, all recorded by me from cd's or lp's, except few life recordings.
I still keep few high quality cassette decks around. My favorite are Onkyo.
These days its fun to dig out old cassette and see whats recorded on it. It's pure nostalgia.
No shortage of tapes here...

OMG 🙁
Cassette tapes making a comeback thanks to young, independent artists - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
... last week my youngest (19) bought her first 'Vinyl'..
evil dad made her set up & operate the turntable, just to make her realize what a PITA records are.... on top of that the music was rubbish... her comment: "I'm a bit disappointed"....

Cassettes aren't that bad. Making your own mixtape is a hell of a lot more rugged than a cd and cd's get lost a lot easier. I master my own metal tapes on a JVC TD-V66 which performs just as good as a Nakamichi Dragon in wow and flutter but costs 1/10th the price, I paid $100 for mine.

I still have a cassette player in my car actually and it and the radio sounds great because it has no DSP to meddle with the sound and its a lot easier to eject a cassette and throw it in the glove box than it is to do the same with a cd and worry about it getting scratched up.
For my car build I'll be using a separate stereo system with a phone -> bluetooth -> spdif -> dac -> ALPS volume control -> 5 band equalizer -> Pioneer Class AB amplifier setup to route around the fujitsu ten head unit and give me the best possible sound quality, but as for regular am/fm and cassette listening I use the Fujitsu ten :
