Hi Folks, My amp is no longer working. I was using it to drive a sub-woofer when it died. The fuse is good but there is no sign of life at power-on.
The only damage I can see is in the attached photos. I'm hoping the fix is fairly simple, but will ship it off to Carver if I have to. Any ideas?

That brown residue is usually just glue to hold the main caps from vibrating loose, old dried out capacitors usually reveal themselves as a increasing hum in the speakers until one day when they short out and blows the fuses or explodes with a bang.
The most likely scenario is that prolonged subwoofer use overheated the amp and blew the output transistors, or overheated the undersized power transformer and tripping its overtemp fuse.
Stereo amplifiers are not rated for extended operation near full power and will fail either by blowing the output stage or the power transformer.

Thanks Tekko, I can see lots of residue on the board but spot between the caps is actually burned and raised from the heat. It is interesting that the reverse side shows no damage at all. I have no way of knowing if that burning was the result of a single event or happened over time. Do you think it is worth it to try new caps first? I did get the docs here but am not sure I'm equipped to dig into other parts of the amp.
You said "no sign of life" - I'd check the power coming into the amp, and go from there. It might be as simple as a triac, switch, diode, or transistor.
