Carver 2000 Receiver

I just got a Carver 2000 from a very good friend. It seems to be operating pretty normally. I've gone through and given the controls a shot of De-Oxit and I've also inspected the soldering on the power supply and touched up any areas that may have developed the dread fissures I understand Carver's are prone to. It was working when I got it and it still works now.

I do not have the service manual. Sadly, HiFiEngine does not provide one.

My question is: what's the DC offset/idling etc. current supposed to be on this monster? Is it adjustable or is it like some amps/receivers, just "set" or controlled "automatically (until it breaks)?" In reading about this unit it's clear that it is a very high-tech, unique design and should not be "messed with" unwisely. That's why I'm turning to you.

DC offset (by any conventional meaning of the term) is always adjusted to give as close to 0.000 volts DC at the speaker terminals as possible. In practice, anything under 100mv will not cause problems but would be considered high by todays values. Typically you should see more than around 10 mv on a high quality amp.

Idling current will be set by the manufacturer, sometimes with the aid of a distortion analyser, sometimes by just setting to a 'nominal' value for that design. Ther eis no reason to suspect it will have altered on its own.

Unless you have very good suspicions that something is amiss then you would be well advised to leave it be as regards adjustments.
