Hello! I was wondering if someone could help me? I just picked up Technics SL-d3 TT with a Audio Technica AT 15Sa cartridge and AT 15ss needle . The needle is shot what would I replace it with and how good is that cartridge and how old? I dont wont to spend to much,but I do want something descent! RT now Im useing a ADC OLM 30 mk111 . I had it in my collection it was never opened from 1975,but it is a spherical!

if you want to stay with AT, they make some decent inexpensive cartridges

I know you do not want to spend too much, but too much is a relative term, I have AT OC9 and I am happy with it

It must have been a decent cartridge, the vinylengine database lists it as having a Shibata stylus. You could probably get a replacement Jico or stock elliptical stylus for under $100.

Mid to late 70's, but that's a guess.

I've got a shure M97 era IV. I bought it before 1980 and have played thousands of sides with it. It doesn't damage records. The diamond is still good. By contrast, a bargain Grado FTE I bought in 1974? the diamond shattered a chunk off in four or five years. So bargain cartridges can be no bargain. Last year I checked, Shure was still selling the M97.
