I've done some searches and googling but I can't find out if TT cartridges and tonearm connections are mostly universal? Do they have a standard connection or do different brands have their own proprietary version? Anything else this relative noob to TTs should look out for is welcome.😀
Hi, Do you mean the arrangement of the 4 pins at the back. Is so, yes mostly universally the same, apart from an Ortofon OM30 I have. These have the pin colours in a different order.
If you mean the attaching distance for a cart to the tonearm, yes 12.5mm
Cheers
Yeah, the 4 pins. Thanks for the info, It's appreciated.
There is also the P-mount or T4P cartridge socket, popular in DJ turntables.
Next time I see P Mount or T4P cartridge socket I will know what it means? Thanks mate, it all helps.
Besides the aforementioned P-mount and T4P cartridges all carts are connected to the head shell by four short leads, whose colours are coded as
white = left channel
red = right channel
blue = L ch gnd
green = R ch gnd.
Best regards!

Sorry for having been vague. P-mount is a type of socket where the P-mount cartridge fits directly, without the need of a headshell for convenience. Adjustment is not possible and not needed either. There are no slots for screws fixing to a headshell. Example:Next time I see P Mount or T4P cartridge socket I will know what it means? Thanks mate, it all helps.
