Cartridge for Kenwood KD2055

I recently picked up a Kenwood KD-2055 belt drive turntable. I want to replace the cartridge, and have the choice of an Ortofon OM-series cartridge or a Sumiko Blue Point, both of which I already own. I'm also thinking of buying a Grado Red or Silver cartridge. Which of these would be most compatible with the existing tonearm?

I've nixed the Ortofon cartridge, since it is a DJ-type with spherical stylus. That leaves my choices between my Sumiko Blue point (old style) and a Grado Red or Silver cartridge. I'm leaning toward ordering the Grado. However, I understand that the tone arms on the older Japanese turntables may have a fairly high effective mass. If so, I need to know if the compliance of the Grado cartridges is compatible. If anyone has direct experience with the Kenwood KD-2055, please fess up...

I finally decided to get a Grado Gold, and the sound is gorgeous - it's the best cartridge I've ever owned. I'm hearing a lot of extra inner detail in records I've had for 20 years. A special favorite is Mozart's flute and harp concerto and his clarinet concerto. This particular record is an old London Stereo Treasury chestnut that probably I probably bought for $1.99....

Contemplated improvements - Sorbothae feet, and a different mat. Has any one had any experience with the "most excellent mat"?

I'll chime in as I am also curious...

I just picked up a KD-2055 at a thrift store sans cartridge for $7.50. It seemed
solidly built and I would like to find a cartridge for it that is as cheap as possible!(In keeping with the price I paid for the turntable and the fact that I will probably be buying $.50 records)

It's not the best TT in the world, but it's ok. I would treat it at least to a Grado Black. I have a Grado Gold on mine. I had all sorts of ambitions when I first got mine to get a better mat, etc, but thst hasn't happened yet. What I really need to do is to take the alignment disk that came with my test record and get the cartridge trued up.

Where did you get your test record at? I need to true my cartridge up too. How do you like the grado gold? Any thoughts on trying the new Ortofon 2m red or something?

Thanks for replying to a threads thats as old as this, I really appreciate it.
